Burden of Memory follows Thena Vernwood, leader of the guild "Borderland Defense Force". A powerful but extremely overconfident mage, the journey her sister's death puts her on causes her to begin to falter and second guess her actions for the first time in her life. By the end she'll not only learn the fate of her sister, but will be forced to shoulder a burden that she never wanted but knows she needed in order to grow.
This book directly connects to the events of the game, Echo of the Void. Playing the game is not needed to understand the full context of the book, but reading the book helps provide more context for one of the main characters of the game as well as Ashendal's place in it.

Cost of Knowledge
Cost of Knowledge follows Jirrek, a reptilian scientist that has been directed to utilize the newly discovered "artifact" as a source of energy to help his race. Stopped before being able to test the energy collection system, Jirrek is swept up in a quest taking him across the entire solar system of his homeworld that will not only allow him to help his race, but sheds light on secrets long buried.
This book begins to delve into the overarching narrative of the series. While Burden of Knowledge lays out the basics, many terms and narrative threads that will be continued through all the books are introduced or expanded upon here.
